Edgar is a special dog with special medical needs. An owner surrender at AAC, Edgar was completely shut down, very fearful, and recovering from a neck injury that required surgery. He was a sad sight who needed Blue Dog Rescue. While settling in with his new foster family, it became apparent that Edgar’s skin was more fragile than normal. A trip to the emergency vet, stitches, and extensive tests, uncovered an extremely rare genetic disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS). Not the best news. EDS causes abnormal production or breakdown of collagen, and in dogs, that means loose, fragile skin that is weaker than normal and can tear easily. It can also mean instability in joints and possible organ function problems. To date, Edgar shows some joint involvement, but normal organ function. Because there is no cure for EDS, his lifespan will be shortened and treatment will involve continuous supportive therapy. At present, he is a happy, playful, pain-free puppy who loves his family and is unaware that anything is amiss in his sweet world. He needs a home with no other dogs, no cats and no small children. A quiet home, short walks, soft toys, couch-potato TV, and unconditional love—that’s for him. He is a jewel and has a lot to offer the right family who would like to share in his goofy happiness and joy. If you are interested in meeting this beautiful boy, please email or fill out an adoption application. Or you can help Edgar immensely by donating to him through Blue Dog Rescue. It has been very expensive getting to this point and learning of his diagnosis.
