--Adoption process information--

Gretl

Gretl is the lover girl, she thinks she is a lap dog. She will snooze laying on her back in your arms. Now I don't want to give you the wrong impression and make her sound like a couch potato. First, she must run and play with her puppy friends or play with her doggie toys. Gretl is very treat motivated and will be easy to train. She has already learned sit and we are working on down. Gretl is pretty good on a leash and loves to go for walks. Gretl is a heeler mix and just about 6 months old. She weighs 30 pounds now and will probably weigh around 40 pounds full grown. Gretl is house trained, crate trained, up to date on her vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. Gretl is ready for her forever home. If you would like to meet Gretl, email kathy@bluedogrescue.com.

Igor

Hey all you Weimaraner lovers out there, take a look at this handsome fellow. He is full of energy, and knows how to sit, shake, down and roll over. He will need more leash training as he is always ready to go. Igor needs a good size yard and a active dog buddy to romp and play with.

Igor is 11 months old, 68 pounds and is in perfect health. He is house trained, working on his crate training and very affectionate (he gives big sloppy kisses). He has a bit to much energy for small kids but does love them. If you are interested in meeting Igor please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.

In memory of 'Big Dad', from Nancy and Jean and the babies.

Rocky Raccoon

Rocky Raccoon is the big brother. He is the biggest of the siblings and looks after them. Rocky Raccoon loves to play and is learning how much fun doggie toys are. When he is tired he is ready for some cuddles and kisses. Rocky Raccoon and his siblings were found in a box near a dumpster. Clearly not trash, they are all sweet and very social. Rocky Raccoon is about 7 weeks old and weighs around 4 pounds. If you would like more information on Rocky Raccoon, email missy@bluedogrescue.com.

Thanks to M Ann.

Lola Jane

Lola Jane is a shy girl that resembles a black and tan coonhound, but at 7 months old is closer to the size of a whippet (a little over 30 pounds). She was dropped off at TLAC with the mysterious explanation that her previous owners "couldn't keep" her. Her foster parents think her previous owners must have been crazy to part with such a well-behaved puppy! Little Lola Jane started out a little bit nervous, but is beginning to hold her head high and be proud of her new talents, which include: knowing how to "sit" and "go to her room" (crate), walking like a show dog on a leash, and being housebroken. Likes: everything and everyone, especially fluffy things and people that will scratch behind her ears. Please contact: courtneyandmichele@bluedogrescue.com.

In memory of Zeus, from Nancy and Jean and the babies.

Duane

So let me share with you a fool-proof way to get someone to take you home from an incredibly crowded animal shelter when there are about twenty other puppies on any given day that need out. Wait 'til someone sticks their hand in your kennel, then immediately wrap your little paws around their arm and refuse to be pried off while simultaneously staring at them with big brown pleading eyes. I promise you, it will work every time! I'm about eight weeks old as of 7/1, weigh about eight pounds, and best guess is a Shepherd mix, heavy on the mix. They expect me to be around 50 pounds when I am all grown up. My brother Dwight and I are both extremely handsome, social little guys. I've started my vaccinations, have been wormed, and will be neutered just as soon as I'm a little older. For more information, email my foster mom at jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Dwight

Even thought my brother Duane is bigger than me, I'm usually in the lead for all the important investigating that needs to happen around here. Be it bugs, the baby pool, or brand new toys, I'm always on it! I'm very generous with the puppy kisses and love to snuggle. I'm about eight weeks old as of 7/1, weigh about eight pounds, and best guess is a Border Collie mix. They expect me to be around 45 pounds when I am all grown up. My brother Duane and I are both extremely handsome, social little guys. I've started my vaccinations, have been wormed, and will be neutered just as soon as I'm a little older. For more information, email my foster mom at jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Smallest pup, biggest charm. Good luck! - Kathleen

Golly

Ready, set, go! He's the fastest little dog at his foster home. Golly's little legs like to run, and run and run. If you are looking for a small jogging partner here he is. How about going to the park to play ball? Golly is just the dog for you. He is full of personality and would love to call your place home.

Golly is an eighteen month old, sixteen pound Terrier mix. He had a great check up with the vet, is crate trained, working on his house training ( he has really come a long way in the past few weeks) and likes canines, felines and humans of all ages. If you are looking for a active, smart and fun new dog please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.

Golly is off to obedience school for the next 16 weeks.  He will be learning basic skills like sit, stay, heeling on leash and even try out the agility course.  We will be updating his information in the next few weeks.

Thank you
Samuel and Stephanie.
Big thanks to Richard and Martha for helping the dogs!

Holy Toledo

One look at his face, and you just can't help but break into a smile. Holy Toledo has the kind of face that just makes you happy all the time. He was found out in the middle of nowhere with two other pups. He was a little bit shy, when he first arrived at his foster home but soon realized that this foster family loves him. He has settled into their routine and is enjoying being part of a family.

Holy Toledo is a fourteen month old, twenty one pound Terrier mix. He is current on vaccines, healthy, crate trained and is working on becoming house trained. He is almost there with only a couple of accidents in the last two weeks. He is ready to find a permanent family. He loves to play with other dogs of all sizes, is scared of the cat and is fine with kids. For more information on him please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.

Holy Toledo is off to obedience school for the next 16 weeks.  He will be learning basic skills like sit, stay, heeling on leash and even try out the agility course.  We will be updating his information in the next few weeks.

Shimmy

So I wake up every morning from a refreshing puppy sleep, wipe the puppy sleepyseeds from my eyes, and dash directly outside to do my business. After I’m done, I like to go inspect my baby pool for interlopers. A big fat Toadman likes to go swimming in there at night and he doesn’t vacate even when I tell him to (barkbark, I say). We stare at each other for awhile and then I go get my foster mom and tell on him and she comes and fishes him out and puts him in the bushes where I can’t find him. When he’s gone, I go for a morning swim (well, really splash). My two foster brothers, Duane and Dwight, like to follow me all over the place and sometimes I push them around a little but they don’t mind because that’s what big sisters do. I spent a weekend at Lee Mannix’s Center helping trainers learn how to teach puppies, and I learned all sorts of good stuff, including “sit”, “down”, and recall! They said I was a very good, smart puppy, and I was very eager to learn new things. I weigh fifteen pounds right now and I’m about three months old (as of 7/7), and a female Lab mix. The vet says I will be about fifty pounds when I am all grown up. I’ve been spayed and microchipped, have almost finished my puppy vaccinations, and am on flea/heartworm prevention too. For more information, email my foster mom at jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

To Shimmie - a fellow Velcro dog just like our Monkey.  Love, Mark and Lisa
Thank you to David and Marti.

Sooey

My name is Sooey and I am a mixed breed.  I am black and white and have a lovely black shaped diamond on my head!  I am approximately 26 pounds and one year old.  I was found wandering around my foster mom's neighborhood.  Unfortunately I am heartworm positive, but I am being treated and will soon (in August) be cured and available for adoption to my new family.  I am a very loving, sweet little girl!  My favorite thing is to get my ears rubbed and kisses on my nose are always a plus too!  One of my other favorite things to do is play with toys and fetch in the back yard.  I am kennel trained and my foster parents are teaching me some new basic commands, such as sit and lay down, etc.  I am very smart so I am learning all these things very fast!  I love to play so much so that I would probably do better with a family that has children 11 and up.  Sometimes I get really excited!  My foster parents are also working with me on my potty training.  I have had a few accidents, but overall I'm doing great!  So if you are interested in making me a part of your family, please email loren@bluedogrescue.com and let her know.  I am looking forward to meeting my potential new family!

Please consider donating via PayPal to help cover Sooey's care.

Lonesome Luke

Lonesome Luke is lonesome no more, but it was touch and go there for awhile. We just can't figure out how this adorable pup didn't get a shred of adoption interest at the shelter. Whatever the reason, a Blue Dog volunteer caught him making big soft goo-goo eyes at everyone who walked by, and he was whisked into a foster home just in time. Lonesome Luke is a male Lab mix, about ten pounds at nine weeks old (6/15). He's on the mellow side, but he's made a puppy friend or two and we expect that as he settles in, he'll start to get goofy. He likes to arrange his food bowls just so (hey, when you're a singleton puppy, you gotta make your own entertainment) and overall is a lovely little guy. We suspect there's Bassett or something low-riding in the mix; he's got an adorable chunky body and short legs. Luke's started his puppy vaccinations, has been microchipped, is current on flea/heartworm prevention and will be neutered shortly. For more information on Luke, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Lonesome Luke sponsored in honor of Willa's 10th birthday.  Happy Birthday, Willa.

Indie

Indie was picked up on a rural road in far east Austin all by herself, most likely the lone surviving puppy from a litter. She was taken to TLAC by the good Samaritan who rescued her, and was quickly placed in foster care. Though her foster moms are learning her personality, it is clear that she is a little fighter. Indie loves to play with the other dogs in her foster home and is getting to know what a cat is. Her favorite game is to play tug or to try to grab your shoe laces when you walk, which shows her playful nature.

Indie is about 7-8 weeks old and is thought to be a Boston Terrier mix. She has started on her puppy shots. Though she is fairly healthy, we are working on getting her into even better shape in order to be ready for her forever home. Indie has sharp puppy teeth and nails, so a home with small children would not be the best for her. For more information, please contact lori@bluedogrescue.com.

Indie has really proven herself to be a goofy, fun, energetic pup (check out the picture of her in the refrigerator by clicking on her picture). She is 75% potty trained and has learned to use the doggy door. She does have a dominate personality and is attending behavior classes at Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior. She will need a home without children or other dogs. In addition, her new owners will need to commit to additional training in order to insure that she continues to develop in a positive manner.

We love you Indie and we hope you get adopted soon. - Emma and Gaby

Hollie

Are you a good leader? Are you looking for someone to follow you on adventures and through your daily routine? Hollie is the girl for you! She is looking for an active person/s, who will take her places and share the big, exciting world with her. Hollie was in a home for the past 4 years and was returned when the couple got a divorce. She spent a lot of her time in the backyard without much excitement. She needs someone who will stick by her. She would love to take a doggie class and would love to accompany a walker, hiker, jogger or runner on their trips outdoors. She would also probably love to learn how to do agility coursework. Hollie has perfect housemanners - she has never had an accident or gotten into mischief while her people are away. Hollie is an affectionate, 50 pound Border Collie mix. For more info, contact suzy@bluedogrescue.com.

Quincey

Handsome Quincey came into Town Lake Animal Center as a stray. If he could speak, this Australian Cattle Dog would have many a tale to tell. He's not had an easy life--he needs to be treated for heartworms, will have a broken tooth extracted, and also may need surgery on an old fracture. We'll be spending the next couple of months getting Quincey ship-shape, but in the meantime, he could use your help!

Please consider donating via PayPal to help cover Quincey's care.

This guy is a typical ACD, active, playful, and fun. He’s interested in the cats in his foster home, but initial introductions have gone just fine. He seems to get along well with other dogs and adores belly rubs and attention. He’s about 4 years old and weighs 26 pounds. If you have other questions about Quincey, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Hope you're feeling better soon cutie pie! Love, Janna, Kris, Doc and Dulce

Tawny

Tawny is a petite girl with lots of character. She "talks" to her foster mom with cute whiny chirps and squeaks. We saw her at the shelter and were impressed by her laid-back nature and her inclination to stay right with people. She has an endearing (but slightly obnoxious) habit of walking so close to you, she bumps into your heels. So far, she's been interested in the cat here, but not aggressive, so we're thinking she'd be just fine with a dog-savvy feline. Tawny is 35 pounds at around 8 months old, so she will probably fill out with another 10 pounds. Best guess is a Heeler mix. She's already learning "sit", how to walk on a leash, and how to hang out quietly in her crate. She hasn't had an accident in the house in the time she's been in her foster home, and we haven't had many issues with puppy chewing either. Tawny is spayed, microchipped, is current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on flea/heartworm prevention. For more information on this sweet pea, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Thanks to Dawn and staff at Best Friends Boarding in Rosanky, Texas, for taking such wonderful care of Tawny while her foster mom was out of town.

Louisa

Louisa loves to play with the tennis ball - she can entertain herself for hours batting it around and then chasing it. She'll play fetch too, but is not always good about bringing the ball back. Louisa likes to play in the kiddie pool too. Louisa is very sweet and will sit at your fit waiting for some loving. She is a little shy at first. Louisa has mastered sit and knows down, too. She walks pretty well on a leash and is working on getting better. Louisa is house trained, crate trained, up to date on her vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. The only thing missing now is her forever home. Louisa just turned 6 months old and weighs around 35 pounds. Now for the million dollar question, what is she? Well, her sister Gretl definitely looks like a heeler so Louisa has some heeler mixed in. Could it also be Lab? Great Pyrenees? Border Collie? We are just not sure.  She should be around 50 pounds full grown. If you would like to meet Louisa, email kathy@bluedogrescue.com.

Thanks to Paul and Sue for their donation to the dogs.
Rick sends his love to all the Blue Dogs hoping they all find new homes soon.

Guy

He has tough meathead looks and a big intimidating bark, but quite the mashed potato soul. All the puppies that have come through his foster mom's house call him "Uncle Guy"--he adores them. He's also best friends with the cranky alpha female dog in the house that doesn't like most other dogs! Guy lives with a senior, pokey cat and is very respectful of her, demonstrated by his head roll and concerned googly eyes when she sneaks up and sniffs him. Guy has been through classes at the Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior (www.lmccb.com) and we are looking for an adopter who is willing to continue with that training. He almost passed his CGC (um, twice) but once was distracted by a teeny tiny dog and, the next time around, didn't do so well when his foster mom walked away (he made very sad noises). So we are still working on that!

Guy spent the first year of his life on a short chain with no socialization. When he was finally confiscated in a cruelty seizure, he was covered in bite wounds and was literally skin and bones. But he's trying to put that behind him and is all about living life in the moment! Most nights, he goes for a three mile walk with his foster mom, and he's used to carrying a backpack, although as the summer heat kicks in, he becomes a bit more of a wilting violet. He knows "sit", "down", and "wait", is perfectly behaved in his crate, and extremely housetrained. We would say his house manners are perfect, except for two things: shoes and electronic items. He has eaten two blackberries (that would be the kind that is generally considered to be inedible, NOT the fruit) and one cell phone before his foster mom learned to put them out of reach. Other than his affinity for electronics, and his bull-in-the-china shop exuberance, he's a good boy in the house. Guy can be uncertain in new situations, and would probably be nervous around kids. Once he knows you, though, he’s happy to demonstrate his swan dive into your lap for a belly rub. He's a pit bull mix, 65 pounds and 3 years old. He's neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations and flea/heartworm prevention. For more information, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Guy looks just like Sassy...so here's some love from her!
We would never call Guy a snowbunny, brrr!  Thanks for the dog sweater donations, Shawna and Ed!  They are keeping Blue Dogs toasty warm!
Thanks to Horizon Printing for donating to Blue Dog.
Rosie (Rosetta when she was adopted by from Blue Dog) would like to sponsor Guy in memory of Lucy's sister Kathy's dog, Sallie. Sallie was a good dog and Kathy loved her a lot and will miss her terribly.

This donation of love is from Sassy Cummings to Gus.  She swears he's her long lost cousin.

Toot

Toot wandered up a couple of weeks ago at a convenience store way out in the middle of nowhere. He was all alone, scared and really hungry. The owner of the store started to feed him and contacted people in the rescue community for help. One look at his face and his foster Mom was in love. He is now living the good life in foster care with lots of good meals and kisses. He loves all the attention and his tail never stops.

Toot is a 4 month old, 19 pound Heeler/Hound mix. He has started his puppy vaccines, has a mild case of demodex mange which is clearing up nicely with medication and will be ready for a new home in a couple of weeks. If you would like to meet Toot please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.

Hope you find your forever family soon, Toot! - Kathleen

Francis

Imagine letting your dog out on the side of the highway. What do you think she would do? Do you think she would be able to find water? Would she be able to use her wits & nose to find enough to eat? Would she stay out of the road? Well, that is what Francis did. She lived on the side of Highway 183 between Loyola & Manor for at least 2 years. She was all alone and was smart enough and obviously lucky enough to survive. Amazing huh? Francis, named after her guardian angel St. Francis, is what we like to call an American Brown Dog, which means it is hard to tell her lineage. We think she might be a Lab/Beagle mix. She weighs about 40 pounds and is approximately 4 years old. Since rescuing her, she has amazed us every single day. This stoic girl likes to be petted and loves a good scratching. She is great on lead and she is learning how to play. Francis does have a few health issues that need to be addressed. She has a limp and will need x-rays and surgery on one leg. She is heartworm positive and needs treatment. And she needs to be spayed and needs her teeth cleaned. She is scheduled for surgery next week. Francis is an exceptional dog, who deserves to live a life of comfort and a loving person/family to care for her. In her foster mom's opinion, whoever adopts this exceptional girl will be very lucky. For more info contact suzy@bluedogrescue.com.

Francis has started her heartworm treatment. She is doing well and she will finish the treatment up the first weekend in June. I have learned a few things since she has been staying with me. She is enjoying living indoors, she loves going places, and she is fine with cats. I suspect she used to belong to a homeless person - this would explain her unflappable personality. She is a "go with the flow" girl!

Please consider donating via PayPal to help cover Francis' care.

Francis has completed her treatment for heartworms and is now in her resting phase. She come thru the treatment with no problems and she is being a stellar patient! She will have an evaluation of her hip in a few weeks. She is anxious to move on to her "real" life with a new family or person of her own.

Thanks to Marian for helping Francis.
Dear Francis, You are a very brave girl.  Best of luck with your upcoming medical treatments. - Ginger & Katy

Traveling Bear

Traveling Bear's name says it all. He loves to travel, explore and meet new friends. He had the pleasure of attending Eeyore's 45th Birthday Party in Austin and had a blast. He had no problems maneuvering through the crowds of people and dogs. He loved all the attention he received and wagged his tail the whole time. He was the life of the party! Traveling Bear has impeccable manners both inside the home and out on a adventure. So if you are someone who enjoys taking their dog to all the dog friendly events in Central Texas he will fit right in.

Traveling Bear is a 5 year old, 80 pound, Shepherd mix. He is house trained, crate trained, walks like a pro on leash and can sit on command. He does require a home without cats. If you are looking for a wonderful, well trained traveling buddy please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.

Bennie

OK, originally I was looking for a family named “The Jets” so it could fit with my name (Bennie and the Jets).  But that has proved harder than expected and now I’m willing to expand my horizons and accept applications from families with other last names.  I’m about 10-12 months old and a German Shepherd mix.  I have an outstanding knack with kiddos and know how to act with kids of most ages (at least over 2).  I actually really enjoy them and will follow the kids from room to room if I’m given the opportunity.  I do have a lot of energy though and would probably do best in a home with an active family going for daily walks or runs and possibly with another dog that will enjoy playing with me.  I’m sweet as can be and know that sitting and looking at you with my soulful, beautiful brown eyes will give me the attention I’m looking for.  I’m very motivated by attention and treats and should be very easy to train.  As I didn’t get much attention in my formative years, a simple training class would be a lot of fun for me and forever family.  I’m about 50 lbs. and am full grown.  If you have any questions about me, please email his foster mom:  Kristin@bluedogrescue.com

Please consider donating via PayPal to help cover Bennie's care.

Thanks, Amanda, for helping Bennie.
With love from Bee Bee.
Best wishes from Rod.

Mamie

There she lay under a tree in the middle of nowhere, waiting patiently. A good Samaritan noticed her while driving in to work, and was quite surprised to see her under the very same tree that evening! We don't know whether this girl was dumped, or how long she lay there on her own, but Mamie was immediately grateful for kind words and a big bowl of food. We were amazed that nobody was looking for this sweet, well-behaved dog!

Unfortunately, Mamie had more obstacles to overcome. She had heartworms that have been treated, and she’ll need to have a tooth or two extracted in a couple of months, which Blue Dog will take care of. Although she handles steps fine, plays fetch, and is happy to hop up into the car for rides, Mamie's hips are quite arthritic on x-rays. Since she doesn't seem painful, the vet thinks the best course of action is to keep her on a joint supplement and administer pain meds as needed rather than surgery. She's a very happy girl and will even bounce around a bit when she's especially excited (like when her foster mom gets home from work, or dinner is about to be served). Mamie is a lovely, lovely old soul. She's patient with the puppies in her foster home and adores attention. At around 8-9 years old, she's no spring chicken, but she's still got a lot of life to live (and love to give)! Everyone at the vet commented about what a good girl she was. They didn't even have to sedate her for hip X-rays, which is very uncommon; most dogs object strenuously to the awkward positions! Mamie is a 60 pound female Black Lab, housetrained, good with cats and other dogs. For more information on this sweetie, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Mamie is sponsored in honor of Bridget Tolany, wonderful dog mother to Dubh and former Blue Dog, Cora.  Happy Mother's Day!  We love you, Debbie, Brandon, Miles & Brooks

Mr. Pink

What?  You think a name like Mr. Pink is funny?  Well I've got news for you - I'm perfectly happy with it.  I love being Mr. Pink.  In fact, I'm just happy.  I like to run.  I like to play.  I like to chase a toy or two.  I'm about 2 years old and weigh just around 17 pounds.  That makes me just the right size - not too small, not too big.  Best guess is that I am a Chiba-Inu.  That's Chihuahua and Shiba Inu.  Or I guess you could go with Shiba Chinu.  Who cares?  What counts is that I'm awesome.  Email my foster mom at laura@bluedogrescue.com for more info.

Kathleen says "You are precious, Mr. Pink."

Puppies, Puppies, everywhere!  Blue Dog is in need of quality puppy food for all these new puppies.  We try our best to keep these little ones on high quality food, especially since we know many of them haven't had the best start in life.

Blue Dog can take puppy food donations at any of our adoption events.  Thanks so much for your support.

Wisdom

Are you stressed, over-worked and in need a of mental massage? Well look no further, as Wisdom, is the answer to all your ailments. When he sits next to you, and you gently stroke his head, all of your worries fade away. When you look into his big, brown eyes you can see he still has years of wisdom, left to share with you. He is an oasis of peace, love and devotion.

Wisdom is a 9 year old, 103 pound Shepherd/Aussie mix. Yes, he's a big guy but has very nice house manners, and is completely house trained. He had a great visit with the vet and is in good shape. He loves to spend his time laying around the yard under the shade tree's, will occasionally join in for a romp with the other dogs and completely ignores the cats. If you are looking for a well trained, loving, new dog please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.

In memory of Brandy and all the other sweet older dogs looking for a forever home that realizes puppies don't have a monopoly on wonderful.

Buddy Boy

Buddy Boy is a sweet, 70 pound, one-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix. We originally thought he was a Lab/possibly Great Dane or Mastiff mix, until an interested web browser suggested that he might be a BMC, which we had never heard of. After looking up that breed, sure enough, he fits the description in looks and personality. He was found running along a highway in the Austin area. Buddy Boy is a good natured, sensitive, rather mellow fellow who will steal your heart. However, he can also be rambunctious and playful. He loves other dogs and is respectful of those that are not interested in playing. After just a few short weeks, he is now crate trained, appears to be house trained, and will sit for his dinner and/or treats. We are currently working on the place command, in the house and recall training, which is going well. Buddy Boy would love to settle into a forever home and be someone’s faithful companion who will gather all your yard ornaments into a nice pile for you. He would do best in a home with no cats and with children 10 and older. He is neutered, micro-chipped, and current on vaccinations. If you have any questions, please email me at Kathleen@bluedogrescue.com.

A donation has been made in memory of Max Phan, a wonderful Chow.

Jack

This is the story of a boy who loves life. A boy like most young boys, who likes to run and play. Although he is not your typical kid, he has a lot in common with his human counterparts. This is Jack, a 1.5 year old, purebred Peeler (Pit Bull/Heeler). Jack is smart and funny and is very popular. Right now he is busy trying to figure out what electives to sign up for in Middle School. He has narrowed it down to playing on the football team, joining the wrestling team or taking up the drums in the band. Jack is at the age when he still likes playing with the younger pups and doesn't mind letting his buddies see his mommy kiss him. He might be a little embarrassed though if the other boys knew he likes to sleep with his head on mommy's lap.

Jack is impressionable, and he needs someone to keep him focused and direct all of that canine brainpower. Jack would benefit from a good role model. He would love to have an adult take him to a training class and would probably excel at agility or frisbee. Jack is just the boy to be a part of your "get-in-shape" New Year's resolution. He would be an ideal running partner. Maybe you can help get him ready for the
cross country team! Jack weighs 50 pounds; he is neutered, heartworm negative and is current on vaccinations. Contact Missy for more info at missy@bluedogrescue.com.

Todd and Teresa sponsor Jack in memory of Joe Fettig with deepest sympathies to Megan.

Weidman

Weidman is a very special guy that is looking for a very special home. His foster mom found him next to her gate one evening after he had been hit by a car. He had no sustaining injuries except for a broken tail that needed to be amputated and now leaves him with a cute little stub. He is very affectionate with people and would love to be a lap dog, besides the fact that he weighs about 65 pounds.

Weidman would do best in a low to medium energy household that is active outside the home with daily walks or runs and a family that has the time and dedication to continue his training. Weidman loves spending one-on-one time with his foster mom and working on his skills: “sit”, “down”, “with me” (a controlled leash walk) and “place” (staying on his dog bed until he is “freed” – we’re still working on this one). Weidman needs direction and guidelines in his life and thrives when he is sure of what to do. He doesn’t like making the decisions for himself. He does love going for car rides and is always ready for a good game of catch which can be simple rewards after a training session.

Weidman needs to be in a home without cats and he would be happy to be an only dog, though he could share his space with another dog that would be a good role model for him. Weidman is an Australian Shepherd/Heeler mix who is approximately 3 years old. He is house and crate trained, current on vaccinations, current on flea and heartworm preventative, microchipped, and neutered.

Thomas Pinkerton

Meet Thomas Pinkerton, a 9-month-old pit bull mix puppy saved by the kindness of strangers. He was found with his brother, abandoned on a Buda highway on a 104-degree July day. He was suffering from mange and malnutrition; his paws were swollen from the scorching concrete. The woman, who stopped to pick the brothers up, reports an 18-wheeler almost ran them over. These sweet boys were close to death from dehydration and starvation and the effects of demodectic mange. They had hardly any hair, they were covered in sores and their skin was just hanging over their bones.

Thomas and Patrick are completely different dogs now. They have blossomed into sweet, happy puppies. Patrick was recently adopted. Now it's Thomas' turn!

Thomas is a big, affectionate teddy bear. He loves other dogs. He is likes to play and likes to lay on the couch. He would love to be someone's lap dog. Thomas will probably weigh between 60-70 pounds when he is full-grown. Thomas is neutered, current on vaccinations and is on heartworm preventative. Contact missy for more information - missy@bluedogrescue.com.

Merry Christmas to Suzanne from Careen
To the Pinkertons from Monkey...who knows what it feels like to take the yucky tasting mange treatment!

She has started her puppy vaccinations, had a good check up with the vet and is ready to find a loving new home. Please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com for information on her.

Jackpot

You don't have to travel to Las Vegas to find your Jackpot. Blue Dog Rescue has one in foster care, just waiting to go home with you. Jackpot had been staying at a vets office since the holidays, as he was lost and no one ever showed up to claim him. He is in perfect health, and neutered. He is 10 months old and weighs 35 pounds. He will benefit from a obedience class, as he is very smart and treat motivated. He has already mastered sit at his foster home in just a few days. He loves to play and tug toys with other dogs but does require a home without cats. If you are interested in winning a Jackpot of a dog please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.

3-10-08 I'm off to training where I will be learning basic obedience, try out the agility course and be ready for a new home in about 12 weeks. Please e-mail my foster family as they can arrange a time for you to visit me at school so I can show off everything I have learned.

3-29-08 A note from Jackpot's trainer: This week was a big week for Jackpot. He began to learn agility and loves it. His specialty so far is jumping. He not only clears the jumps but goes for style points by hanging in the air or going over then sideways. we will be continuing agility this week and we both are looking forward to it. We also had our first test together this Friday. We had do sit for one minute, lay down for three minutes, stay on his place bed for five minuets, heel, sit at the door until told to go, and come to me when called. Jackpot was perfect in all but the heeling, he decided he had an itch halfway through which provided for some laughs from other students and some instructors. Once he got the itch out of the way he heeled good again.

Sienna

I'm just the perfect shade of red, thus my name. My brother, Cayenne, and I came from Town Lake Animal Center. They told us we were too young to stay there, and luckily there was a spot in Blue Dog for the two of us. I've started our puppy vaccinations, have been wormed, and will be spayed just as soon as I'm a little older. My mom was a Golden
Retriever/Shepherd mix, and I should be a medium-sized dog when I am full grown (45-50 pounds). While my brother is off exploring, I like to find the nearest lap and snuggle up. My black eyeliner and mask complement my soft red coat perfectly. I'm a little girl, about eight weeks old and five pounds as of 5/15. For more information, email my foster mom at jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Burrito Bob

Hey, You looking at me? Well right back at you. I want to be your new best friend. I want you to play with me, take me for walks and scratch me behind my ears. It's my favorite spot! I keep watching all the fluffy, little puppies get adopted and go to new homes. While here I sit week after week waiting for you. What's the deal? What are you waiting for? I'm ready to start my life with you.

I am a 5 month old, 31 pound Pit Bull/Basset Mix. I'm a really smart puppy as I'm working hard on my house training and I almost have it down. I'm also crate trained, healthy, micro chipped and walk great on a leash. I love to play with any size dog and cats are okay too. Please send a e-mail to lisa@bluedogrescue.com so you can meet me.

Glad you're safe and warm now, BB. - Kathleen
Thanks to Tina for helping the Burrito.

The next time you see a stray dog rummaging through the garbage or sitting on the side of the road, take the time to make the phone call that may save that animal's life. We hear from well-meaning people all the time who didn't call animal control to pick up a stray because they were worried about the possibility of euthanasia. However, the hazards of living on the streets, dodging cars, starving or being injured are far greater. Not to mention, a family may be desperately searching for their companion, and the city shelter offers the best chance at a reunion. In Austin, call 311, and be prepared to offer details about the dog's location and a general description.
