Peach
Peach is a quiet soul who was rescued from the shelter, as plain brown dogs seem to get the same raw deal as plain black dogs. Most people just pass them by without a second thought. Peach is just bursting with love and affection. She just wants a chance to share some of it with you.
Peach is a two year old, forty four pound Shepherd/Hound mix. She is currently away at obedience school being taught to sit, stay, down and heel on leash. Below is a note from her trainer on how well she is doing. If you would like to meet Peach please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com and she can set up a time for you to visit with her and her trainer. She will be graduating from school in mid July.
Peach here, or Peachy Keen as my new trainer likes to call me :-) . I think he really likes me because he keeps telling me what a complete sweetheart I am! I am learning that "sit" means I'm supposed to put my bottom on the ground, that "place" means I get up on my place bed, and that "free" means I can get down.

Edwin
Edwin is adorable. He is always sporting a big grin, and his tail wags non stop. Edwin is a one year old, eighteen pound Poodle mix. He requires a home with another dog as he loves to play, and is great with kids of all ages. He is currently attending an eight week obedience course and will graduate at the top of his class, as he is so smart. Below is a progress report from his trainer. If you would like to set up a time to meet with Edwin and his trainer please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.
My little rescue dog Edwin is so incredible! It is amazing to see his little personality blossom into a huge personality! We love to go out and play and when I would let him run free in a play yard at first he did not want to come near me! He was sure I was going to take him away from all the fun. Well, over the last couple of weeks he has decided that I am "the fun" and even when I let him go he hangs around wanting to play and even offers up his new tricks, like "sit" and "down"! Talk about an eager to please little guy! This week we added even more tricks to our list such as learning how to navigate Agility obstacles! He thinks that is pretty cool. Also, we are now starting to work on Recall, so he knows to come running directly to me and sit in front of me as soon as I say "here" just one time! He loves this because it results in treats each time. Another very important trick is the "leave it" command. Although we have just started to work on it he is already getting the idea of the game! I can't wait to see what he accomplishes this week! |

Thai
Thai is the warm, tasty spice, not the hot and spicy kind. She is very relaxed and easy going for a 5 month old pup. She loves to be outside playing with her foster mates, but has good manners when inside the house (the other dogs showed her the doggy door once and she had it down). Her foster mom says that she “soft-shoes it” when she walks, because she scoots and doesn’t pick her feet up completely. When the other dogs are resting, Thai likes to make sure that she keeps her foster mom’s in sight and you will find her following you from room to room. She is a good snuggler when mom lets her up on the couch for some belly rub time!
Thai was found wandering a South Austin neighborhood and was picked up by a good Samaritan, and eventually found her way to a Blue Dog foster home. She is about 5 months old, and she is likely a lab mix of some kind. The vet thinks she is going to be a big girl when she grows up, and probably will be at least 65 lbs. Thai has started her puppy shots, is doing great with crate training, and we are working on potty training. For more information on Thai, contact lori@bluedogrescue.com.

Flynn
Flynn is a 6 month-old, 33 pound bundle of joy. This little guy is a mix between a Basset and a Lab (with a plethora of other possible combinations) which makes him resemble a giant waddling sausage with tree trunks for legs. His wide speckled paws and awkward ways make him a delight to be around. Recently neutered, Flynn is a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who loves "helping" out with chores and going on car trips. Flynn already knows sit and is working on stay. While he can get very excited (he is a puppy afterall), a brief walk or romp with the neighborhood dogs tires him out very effectively. For more information about Flynn please e-mail emily@bluedogrescue.com.

Myrna Loy
Myrna Loy is a two-year old, 16 pound Cairn terrier. She was discovered pregnant, and after her litter was adopted out, this left only her. When we picked her up at the shelter, she was an earthy brown color. After a vigorous bath (and cutting away some matted fur) her coat reinvigorated to a natural light blonde. Myrna is a beautiful little terrier with loads of moxie. When curious, her ears perk up and cover her eyes. When happy, her tail wags in a clockwise circle. When super excited, she lets out a spontaneous and spirited howl. Myrna is a great walker, trotting alongside with her trademark spunky swagger. She loves car rides, as we jet around town she alternates between the backseat windows, a smile on her face the entire time. A recent spaying has put her parenting days to an end (also pay no mind to her bald chicken leg. It was shaved to insert the IV). Myrna is heartworm negative, vaccinated, microchipped and overall a healthy girl. emily@bluedogrescue.com.

Myrtle
Myrtle May is an old fashioned name for an old fashioned girl. Pit bulls were America’s most popular family dog in the early part of the century, before unkind people discovered the dog’s patient and forgiving nature. Myrtle was found in a high crime neighborhood. Unwanted by her owner, he left her living under an abandoned truck by the street. She had several close calls, but good luck (and Blue Dog) found her just in time! Myrtle has a very sweet, submissive personality and is playful and affectionate around other dogs (and cats). She especially loves belly rubs. True to the breed, she is sensitive, carefree and forgiving of past injustices. She is currently about 4 months of age and will grow to be a 50-55 pound beauty. Myrtle has been vaccinated/wormed and will be spayed and microchipped this week. She is learning to look pretty, sit and stay, and she gets a gold star for housetraining too. This sweet pea epitomizes everything wonderful about the breed—she’s a total flirt, likes life a bit on the slow side, and adores people. We love her little sparkling raisin eyes too! For more information, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Thanks to Nick for helping the dogs.

Maurice
There were two eyes peering out of a small drainage pipe, then came a ferocious bark. I took the bark as a "I'm scared, get away from me!". It took a little coaxing, but with the help of my old girl Rosie, out from the weeds came an adorable little puppy. He was now surprisingly thrilled that we were there to rescue him. Every time I find a dog dumped out in the country, it abosultely amazes me that someone could be so callous and throw away a dependent creature where there is no food or water and little chance of anyone finding it. Thankfully, there are plenty of caring people who are as horrified as I am by this act of cruelty.
The first order of business was a bowl of food and water. Then I picked the burrs and stickers off this sweet little guy, who by the way rolled around on the bed and kissed me during the process. Next a bath, which he didn't appreciate until it was over.
I named him Maurice and he is a delight - happy, playful and just the cutest thing on four legs. I am betting he is a Shepherd mix, maybe with some Rottweiler, and because of the double dew claws on both of his back feet, maybe some Great Pyrenees. He is 8 weeks old and weighs 14 pounds. He is going to be a big boy, definitely over 50 pounds.
Maurice loves other dogs. He met the cats, but is not sure what they are. He likes to play in the water bucket and give kisses. He is working on the potty training and crate training. He does like to investigate - lots of poking his nose in things and tasting things, bugs, paper, shoes, etc.
Maurice has had his first puppy vaccination and has been dewormed. He will continue with his vaccinations and will be neutered in about a month. For more information email suzy@bluedogrescue.com.

Good luck, Maurice! - Love, Kathleen

Miss Amanda Jones
Don't be fooled by her photo - this sweetheart is a teeny tiny 14 pounds! And at a year and a half she is full grown. How this precious little thing didn't get snatched up at the shelter is beyond us. In fact, after her nine day stint her time was up! But now she is happy, happy, happy. She is a professional drive by kisser and will roll over for a tummy rub at the drop of a hat. She's shooting for the Miss Congeniality award! Her breed is anybody's guess - we've heard Fox Terrier, we've herd Spitz, we've herd chihuahua, and Jack Russell Terrier. All we know for sure is that she's a great little dog! For more info on Miss Amanda Jones e-mail laura@bluedogrescue.com. |

Noelle the Gazelle
click my pic to see my video!
Noelle has just finished her first basics obedience class! Now at 50 lbs, she is the perfect size for snuggling anywhere she can fit- the bed, floor pillows, the couch, cat beds, your lap. Noelle loves to snuggle!!! When she’s not trying to find the perfect pillow to relax on, she’s running around playing fetch, just watch her video! Noelle would be perfect for someone who loves to be outside doing lots of active doggie things like running, hiking, playing fetch, etc. Noelle is happiest with people and other dogs so she should probably go to with someone who can spend LOTS of time with her or someone who has another dog for her to play with. (Noelle probably shouldn’t go to a home with cats, because she seems a little too interested in them.) For more information on Noelle, please contact becca@bluedogrescue.com.

AJ
AJ is a precious little boy who really enjoys playing with his toys and the other dogs in his foster home. He also loves it when his foster Mom takes him for car rides. AJ is a Lab mix around 3 months old and should be around 55 to 60 pounds. He is house broke and doing very well with his crate training. AJ is neutered, microchipped, on heartworm & flea preventative and current on his puppy vaccinations. AJ has very sharp puppy teeth and nails; he would do best in a home with children over 10. For more information on AJ please email paula@bluedogrescue.com. |

Adam
click my pic to see my video and my updated photo!
Please don't look away, as Adam needs you to hear his story. He was
brought to the shelter by someone who said he had wandered up to their
property. He was infested with fleas and had demodex mange and sores
all over his body. He is so thin you can count every rib. A dog who
has endured so much suffering and pain should be mean and angry. That
is not the case with Adam. He gently licks your hand as you care for
him, and wags his hairless tail. He is now safe in foster care,
sleeping on a soft bed and the bowls of food will be endless. Over the
next few months Adam has been told that he will become stronger, grow
hair and at some point his foster Mom will inform him as to what breed
he is. Please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com and she will pass on your good thoughts and
well wishes to him.
3-2-09 - We found out that Adam tested high positive for heart
worms. He has started his treatment and is doing well. Thank you to
everyone who has sent donations and get well wishes his way.
3-29-09 - Adam had his second round of heart worm treatment on 3-25 and there have been no complications. He has been resting, eating and as you can see his hair is coming in nicely. He will return to the vet in four weeks for his final heart worm treatment and then two weeks later will receive a blood test. If the blood test is negative for heart worms he will be ready for a new home soon after. He has been a wonderful patient and is grateful for everything that has been done for him.
5-17-09 - You won't believe your eyes when you look at Adam now. His hair has completely grown in, he is now heart worm negative and has had a trip to the groomer. He will begin a 12 week obedience class starting in late May and will no doubt be the star of the class as he is so smart. It has been a long road of recovery for Adam and he wants everyone to know how much he appreciates each and every good thought, donation and love sent his way. Adam is truly a miracle dog .
6-29-09
- Adam is currently attending an eight week obedience class and below is a note from him on how much he is enjoying it.
"Hey everyone! I am adjusting so well to my new school. I am quickly picking up on new tricks and skills, and am having a blast! Today I started learning my "at-home" manners and went to my teacher, Jessica's house. I stayed on my place while she traveled to the other side of the living room! There are so many new smells to smell between the nature walks, dog beach club, and all the other dogs! Now I can lay down when I am told and sit at a door until it is opened and I am free to go. I can stay on my place for a long time now, and can do whatever I want while I am on it! It's great here in Hutto, and I think everyone should come visit and meet me, I want to meet you!
Woof,
Adam"

Ferrari
I was originally picked up from a junkyard by Austin Animal Control, but my foster mom thought I needed a classier name, so Ferrari I am. It also suits me as I'm a super graceful boy with long legs and a streamlined body, and hit my cruising speed quickly when I'm playing outside. I love toys and may favorite one is an old de-stuffed white bear that the other dogs have long given up playing with--I'm not picky! I'm very gentle and respectful of the other dogs in my foster home, and the cat here kinda scares me, so I give him a wide berth. I'm a German Shepherd mix, 55 pounds at about a year old old, but I may fill out with a few pounds as I get some good grub. I walk well on a leash, haven't had an accidents in my foster home, and am getting used to my crate too. I'm a pretty laid-back guy. To meet Ferrari, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com. |

Oakley
click my pic to see my video!
Oakley is a very handsome Chocolate Lab/Dobie Mix. He weighs about 35lbs. and is 6 months old. This little guy was lost out in the country with no collar, food, or water . . . just a ball. His big green eyes and sweet personality will win over anyone. Some of his favorite hobbies include swimming, fetching tennis balls, belly rubs, and nap time. Oakley is crate trained and sleeps soundly through the night. He's a champ at taking baths, nail clippings, teeth brushings, and car rides. Lately he's been learning a lot in his obedience classes. So far he knows "sit", "lay down", "shake", and "go to bed". Oakley really enjoys the company of other pets and would do best in a home with another dog. He would also do best with children over the age of 6 years. Check out his video and for more info, please email lisarae@bluedogrescue.com.

This donation is in honor of Oakley and his foster mom Lisa. I hope he finds his forever home - he is a sweet, sweet soul and is lucky to have such an awesome foster mom! Thanks, Lauren, KJ, Molly and Miles

McKinney
click my pic to see my video
Blue Dog was contacted by a local shelter about a lovely dog that the staff had fallen in love with... she had an injured leg that prevented any potential adopters from considering her. We agreed that she was a sweet dog that deserved a second chance, so we were there to pick her up before her 5pm deadline. She was severely underweight and had a noticeable limp, but wagged her tail as she said goodbye to her advocates at the shelter. On her first night in her new foster home, it was obvious that she was in immense pain. She wouldn’t eat, couldn’t lie down to get comfortable, and would just stand there wagging her tail while holding her right front leg up. She was rushed to vet first thing the following morning when they opened. We had assumed her leg injury was a recent injury, but we were horrified when the vet said she had a dislocated shoulder and that her leg was broken in two places. The worst part was that the fractures in her leg had calcified… the vet estimated that these injuries had occurred more than a year ago! She had never been treated and had lived in pain for over a year! She is heartworm positive too.
This picture was taken at the vet’s office… just before she went to surgery. McKinney’s leg was deemed beyond repair, so, after much thought, the decision was made to amputate her leg. She also needed some dental work, so that has been done as well. She is recovering and has started her heartworm treatment. She is vaccinated, spayed and microchipped, too. She is about 4 years old and a shepherd mix. She is a wonderful dog that will recover fully and deserves her chance at a life full of love and devotion. If you would like to donate towards McKinney’s vet bills, please donate through the PayPal link below. We will post updates as she improves… For more information, please email amy@bluedogrescue.com.
6-1-09 - McKinney is recovering very well from her amputation. She is getting around better every day and has even started to put on some very necessary weight with some good food! She has had her first round of heartworm treatment and we are expecting a full recovery. We do think she is a little older than we previously thought... probably 6-7 years old. She has very wise-eyes and you can tell she has been through so much in her life. Because of the life she has led, she would thrive best as an only dog and with children 12 years and older. She will make a loving and calm lifetime companion to someone. Thank you to all who have donated to her recovery!

Dessie
Sitting at the shelter with her head hung down was little Dessie. She had been left at the shelter, by the family she had lived with for twelve years. When she arrived at her foster home, they noticed that her stomach was very swollen. The vet found that Dessie had never been spayed and had a large mass inside her. So it was decided that the mass had to be removed and they would spay her at the same time. Her foster family prayed that this little one would make it through surgery, as they also found that she has an enlarged heart. The day arrived and the surgery began and there could not have been a happier ending. Dessie sailed through the surgery, the mass was sent off and came back benign and she has made a remarkable recovery. Dessie was also seen by a cardiologist and has no coughing, shortness of breath, and is able to play with other small dogs. She does require two heart medications and the cost is $50.00 a month.
Dessie is a twelve year old, seven pound Silky Terrier. She loves people, dogs of all sizes and will even tolerate living with a cat. Dessie is a little spitfire and deserves to live out her life with a loving new family. Please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com for more information on her. |

Como
Como is a 2 year old Chihuahua male. He is a very loveable little guy and his favorite thing to do is get a belly rub! He also really likes his head to be scratched. He loves to play with his toys in the yard and gets along very well with other dogs and cats. He is just an all around friendly guy. He would prefer to be in a home with children ages 12 and up. He is still perfecting his leash training and is kennel trained. He is looking for a loving home, with people that will shower him with lots of extra love forever. He is up to date on his vaccinations and neutered. He is ready to find his new home. loren@bluedogrescue.com |

Coco Channel
Coco is a happy, loving, sweet pup. She loves to play with dog toys. Coco is really good at playing fetch and brings the toy right back to you. Our newest game is I hide when I throw the toy so she has to get the toy and then find me, she is always so excited when she finds me. She is always up for a game of tug too. Coco plays well with other dogs. Coco is a smart girl, she knows sit, down, walking on a loose leash and will come when called. Coco is active but knows when it is time to take a break and snuggle on the couch with you. Coco is 8 months and weighs 35 pounds, just the perfect size. She is a Staffordshire Terrier mix. For more information on Coco, please email kathy@bluedogrescue.com.

Archer
Archer was a stray picked up by animal control. He was covered in fleas, dirty and has chewed himself so much that his front teeth are worn down. His check up with the vet revealed that he was heart worm positive. He has finished his heart worm treatment and had a dental. He lost a few teeth but is now feeling great and ready for a loving home.
Archer is a three year old, ten pound Terrier/Chihuahua mix. He thinks he's a big dog and loves to play. He will benefit from a basic obedience class to help with leash training. If you are interested in meeting him please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com.
6-29-09 - Archer is currently attending an 8 week obedience class and is doing great. Below is a update from his trainer. If you would like to meet with Archer and his trainer please e-mail Lisa at the address above.
"I am happy to report that Archer is not part horse and in fact does sit very well.
He will sit on command about 85% of the time and my next step is to have him sit politely while I open dooways.
His personality is coming out so much that he is getting a tad bit in front of what is technically the "heel" position when we walk.
Even though it is great seeing his tail up and wagging and his eagerness to explore the world, I am trying to keep him in the perfect position.
I am also trying to teach him "down" by having him crawl under my arched knee as I sit on the ground with him."

Riley
Handsome, affectionate, always ready for a new adventure... What more could anyone ask for? Riley is a 2 year old, 40 pound male Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler). This boy has impressed us with his mannerly behavior and motivation to please people. He's got "sit" down pat, is getting pretty good at "down", and is always ready for a belly rub. Found as a stray, his time was up at Town Lake Animal Center, after not one by two adopters fell through by no fault of his. For a heeler, Riley is a little more laid-back than usual, which his foster mom appreciates. If you”ve been wanting a heeler, but their typically high activity level has you thinking twice, he might be a good match. He gets along very well with the other dogs in his foster home (playful), but cats are just too much fun to chase. Riley is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and on flea/heartworm prevention, up-to-date on vaccinations. For more information, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Mikey
When Mikey was found in the park and taken to a local shelter he was just a little puppy…and he was barely alive. Thanks to the help and care of many volunteers, Mikey has grown into a big, handsome boy of 70 pounds. He is now ten moths old and bursting with energy and silliness. But unfortunately, Mikey still has some health problems. Every time he goes for a walk or plays chase with his friends he pays a price. A couple of hours after the fun he is limping and hobbling and will sometimes whimper in pain. He has elbow and hip dysplasia and will need immediate surgery before the problem worsens. Mikey loves to play tug with his foster siblings, swim, go for hikes, and chase after sticks (sometimes he evens brings them back!). We know he’s going to love all these things even more without the pain. If you would like to help with the costs of Mikey's treatment, you can use the paypal link below to donate. For more information on Mikey, email kathy@bluedogrescue.com.
Mikey has undergone the first of two elbow surgeries and is well on his way to recovery. His pain level is much reduced and he gets a little stronger and friskier each day. We hope to schedule the second surgery within the next month. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped make this life-changing care possible! Mikey sends you all tons of love and kisses.

Ziek Ziek is a handsome 2 year old peacekeeper who was found
dodging traffic in East Austin. He is about 75 lbs of pure German
Cattle Dog (Australian Cattle Dog / German Shepherd mix) love who
finds himself happiest either flailing in the back yard with a stuffed
animal, curled up in your lap, or out and about for a light hike,
which is a new treat for him, as when we received him he was heart
worm positive and would get winded doing the slightest tasks. He
completed his treatment and is now a healthy and happy young dog who
is hoping to find his forever home. Ziek gets along great with other
dogs and loves being around all people. He has been very quick to
learn his manners, and will proudly "sit" and "wait" for your command
before eating and nearly anything else that you request of him. Also,
he is crate trained and does well on a leash. For more information,

Frannie Would you like a best friend? I am
looking for a nice person/s to call my own. I lived on the side of
Highway 183 for years and I am now loving having a warm place to sleep
and a nice person to hang out with. I am approximately 7 years out and
I weigh 40 pounds. My foster mom thinks I am a Beagle/Lab mix. I LOVE
going places - walks (I am perfect on lead), the pet store, riding in
the car, to the park, basically anywhere with my person. I am
housebroken and crate trained, but don't really need to be, because I
am trustworthy in the house alone. I would prefer a calmish home,
small kidos are too rambunctious for me. I get along with other dogs
and cats. Boy, I have a lot of good qualities huh?! To contact my
foster mom - email

Squishy is kind of a silly name, yes, but then again, he's a pretty silly dog, so maybe sometimes these things just work themselves out, you know? I mean, in the time it's taken me to write this opening sentence, he has been next to me on the couch licking my face, then down on the floor to lick my knee for a little while, then with his upper body back on the couch to lick my wrists and hands, which does wonders for typing accuracy.
Squishy is a neutered male Pit Bull who is a little under a year old and about 40 pounds, who has so far retained all of that wonderful puppy playfulness. He gets along well with my two dogs and also with my three cats, although can be a little pushy with the cats sometimes. He is fully crate trained and potty trained, and his only real vice is stealing toys from his sisters, which sometimes gets him into trouble. He is completely deaf, which sometimes hinders the process of getting his attention, but hasn't kept him from learning when I'd like him to come, and sit, and when I want him to leave the cat alone.
If you are dog savvy and looking for a dog who will become very tightly bonded to you, a dog who will be up next to you on the couch whenever you want him to be (and probably sometimes when you would really rather he wasn't), and you don't have any children under the age of about 8, give Squishy a thought! You'll be glad you did.

Did you know that an average of 25% of all dogs in U.S. shelters are purebred? If you have your heart set on a purebred dog, but don't want to contribute to pet overpopulation by buying a dog, check out
www.petfinder.org. Breed-specific rescue groups are another great source--in Texas, there's one for just about every breed!

Jack
This is the story of a boy who loves life. A boy like most young boys,
who likes to run and play. Although he is not your typical kid, he has
a lot in common with his human counterparts. This is Jack, a 1.5 year
old, purebred Peeler (Pit Bull/Heeler). Jack is smart and funny and is
very popular. Right now he is busy trying to figure out what electives
to sign up for in Middle School. He has narrowed it down to playing on
the football team, joining the wrestling team or taking up the drums
in the band. Jack is at the age when he still likes playing with the
younger pups and doesn't mind letting his buddies see his mommy kiss
him. He might be a little embarrassed though if the other boys knew he
likes to sleep with his head on mommy's lap.
Jack is impressionable, and he needs someone to keep him focused and
direct all of that canine brainpower. Jack would benefit from a good
role model. He would love to have an adult take him to a training
class and would probably excel at agility or frisbee. Jack is just the
boy to be a part of your "get-in-shape" New Year's resolution. He
would be an ideal running partner. Maybe you can help get him ready
for the
cross country team! Jack weighs 50 pounds; he is neutered, heartworm
negative and is current on vaccinations. Contact Missy for more info
at missy@bluedogrescue.com.

This donation is in honor of Cezar, who oozed love for Jack and Laura for 14 wonderful years. Much love, Mark and Lisa
in loving memory of Cezar Oster, a smart, beautiful dog, and the epitome of friendship and love. We will miss you, Cez
A donation is made with love from Willie.
Todd and Teresa sponsor Jack in memory of Joe Fettig with
deepest sympathies to Megan.

Princess Leia
How would you like to adopt the most famous Blue Dog ever??? Okay well maybe not the most famous, but right up there! I was one of the pups picked to be in a photo shoot with the Indigo Girls for Blue Dog's new 2010 calendar! How cool is that? It must be because I'm so cute and well-behaved.
Can you believe that only a short time ago I was living off the side of the road, being fed only scraps of tortillas? Maybe it was because I had mange and people were too scared to care for me. Luckily for me I was rescued by a Blue Dog volunteer and now live in a warm house, eating good quality puppy food and playing with my new toys. We were able to get rid of the sarcoptic mange, but now I'm receiving treatment for demodex (it's the kind of mange that's not contagious) and already feel much better! When I first came to my foster home I didn't even have energy to play, but now my foster people can't keep up with me!
My energy level is about average... I like to sit with my people and watch TV, as well as play tug and go for runs around the block or on the trail. I would love to find a forever home with a family that would like to take me for walks/runs and to puppy classes. I'm a 6.5-7 month old Shepherd mix girl, and currently weigh about 28 pounds. The vet's best guess on how big I'll be when I grow up is 35 pounds. My foster mom says I am very smart, doing well on my potty training, am very sweet, and that I am quite the cuddler. Due my age and having sharp puppy teeth and nails, I would do best in a home with children over 5. I'm spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea preventatives. If you would like more information about me please email my foster mom at cheri@bluedogrescue.com.

Thanks to Amy Wag for supporting the dogs.
Thanks to the IBM Employee Giving Program.

Minute
No bigger than a minute, this little girl has quickly charmed her foster household with her snuggly behavior and happy-go-luckiness. Minute is a 1 1/2 year old, 10 pound Rat Terrier/Dachshund mix. She's spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and up-to-date on vaccinations. So far, house and crate training are going well, and she loves playing with the other dogs in her foster home. She's respectful of the cats in her foster home as well. No small children, please, as she's such a petite pup. For more information on Minute, please email jenny@bluedogrescue.com. |

Fay
During a recent Blue Dog foster training at the shelter, we used Fay as a case study, and we just couldn't bear to leave her to her fate after spending an hour with this sweet dog. Meek and quiet, she tentatively would approach strangers, tail wagging appeasingly. Fay had an ugly wound on her foot; we found out shortly afterward at the vet that it was a compound fracture. After surgery, her toe is healing nicely. She also had a pellet removed from her face--may a pox be visited upon the person who would aim and fire a shotgun at a nursing mama dog! Fay is on the shy side, but loves to flirt with new people. She's just a little hesitant to approach, and would do best with a confident leader who she could look up to. So far, she's been very well-behaved in the house, with no accidents or chewing. This girl has fit in seamlessly with the other dogs in her foster home. She's on the submissive side, but will stick up for herself if the young dog here gets too rowdy. Cats are no problem; they're a little scary in fact! Fay has been spayed, is heartworm negative and on flea/heartworm prevention, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. She's a very pretty German Shepherd mix (looks much like a miniature GSD), 40 pounds and about 2 years old. For more information, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.
Fay could use some help with her vet bills! If you're able to donate, please click the link below to use PayPal. Thanks!

Guy
He has tough meathead looks and a big intimidating bark, but quite the
mashed potato soul. All the puppies that have come through his foster
mom's house call him "Uncle Guy"--he adores them. He's also best
friends with the cranky alpha female dog in the house that doesn't
like most other dogs! Guy lives with a senior, pokey cat and is very
respectful of her, demonstrated by his head roll and concerned googly
eyes when she sneaks up and sniffs him. Guy has been through classes
at the Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior (www.lmccb.com) and we
are looking for an adopter who is willing to continue with that
training. He almost passed his CGC (um, twice) but once was distracted
by a teeny tiny dog and, the next time around, didn't do so well when
his foster mom walked away (he made very sad noises). So we are still
working on that!
Guy spent the first year of his life on a short chain with no
socialization. When he was finally confiscated in a cruelty seizure,
he was covered in bite wounds and was literally skin and bones. But
he's trying to put that behind him and is all about living life in the
moment! Most nights, he goes for a three mile walk with his foster
mom, and he's used to carrying a backpack, although as the summer heat
kicks in, he becomes a bit more of a wilting violet. He knows "sit",
"down", and "wait", is perfectly behaved in his crate, and extremely
housetrained. We would say his house manners are perfect, except for
two things: shoes and electronic items. He has eaten two blackberries
(that would be the kind that is generally considered to be inedible,
NOT the fruit) and one cell phone before his foster mom learned to put
them out of reach. Other than his affinity for electronics, and his
bull-in-the-china shop exuberance, he's a good boy in the house. Guy
can be uncertain in new situations, and would probably be nervous
around kids. Once he knows you, though, he’s happy to demonstrate his
swan dive into your lap for a belly rub. He's a pit bull mix, 65
pounds and 3 years old. He's neutered, microchipped, current on
vaccinations and flea/heartworm prevention. For more information,
email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.
11/3/08: Guy
became a Canine Good Citizen in November of 2008! His foster mom is
very proud of him for passing the test!

Guy looks just like Sassy...so here's some love from her!
We would never call Guy a snowbunny, brrr! Thanks for the dog
sweater donations, Shawna and Ed! They are keeping Blue Dogs
toasty warm!
Thanks to Horizon Printing for donating to Blue Dog.
Rosie (Rosetta when she was adopted by from Blue Dog) would like to
sponsor Guy in memory of Lucy's sister Kathy's dog, Sallie. Sallie was
a good dog and Kathy loved her a lot and will miss her terribly.
This donation of love is from Sassy Cummings to Gus. She swears
he's her long lost cousin.

Einstein
Meet Einstein. This little cutie pie was rescued from our local animal shelter in just the nick of time. He had been there for nine days and his time was up. It's hard to imagine that such an adorable little dog would get no interest - but that just goes to show how many dogs there are at the shelters. But we saw through the dirt and the matted hair - it's amazing what a pair of scissors and a bath will do! This 18 month old, 12 pound little guy feels so much better now. He was a little shy at first and still doesn't like fast movements (would do best with kids over 10yrs) but he is coming out of his shell. The vet thinks he's a little bit schnauzer and a little bit poodle - Schnoodle! For more info on Einstein e-mail laura@bluedogrescue.com. |

Tickle
Tickle was dumped at a rural shelter pregnant and scared. A volunteer with Blue Dog could not bear to think of her having her puppies all alone in a tiny cage. After making a few phone calls a foster home was found and just ten days later she gave birth to four adorable little ones. She took wonderful care of her puppies but now that they are weaned she is ready to move on and find a new home.
Tickle is a two year old, six pound Chihuahua. She is now spayed, micro chipped and in good health. She prefers the company of dogs her size, could care less about cats and kids ages ten and up will work best for her. If you are interested in meeting Tickle please e-mail lisa@bluedogrescue.com. |

Perla
I’m such a bright little girl and have quickly weaseled my way into my foster mom’s heart with my charming behaviors and ability to catch onto things quick, quick, quick! I listen well to people and am very responsive to verbal correction—making people happy is the name of the game. Independent, but very loving, I like being held in the crook of your arm and cuddled. My sisters and I came into Blue Dog as the result of an unplanned litter. My mom has since been spayed, and I’m the only puppy left of the bunch. I don’t know why, as I get a gold star for housetraining, I don’t pester the cat in my foster home too much, and I love people and activity. Just a sweet pea of a pup! I’m about 3.5 months old as of 5/1, and should be around 35 pounds as an adult. The tell me I’m pretty middle-of-the-road in terms of activity level; I like to explore new things, but I settle down nicely with you when it’s time for a nap. Best guess on breed is a Shepherd mix, heavy on the mix. I’ve been spayed, microchipped, am current on my puppy vaccinations, and am on flea/heartworm prevention as well. For more information, email jenny@bluedogrescue.com.

Juniper
All kisses and smiles from this brown-eyed girl! At 18-months-old,
June will dance circles around you, pick up a toy, flip it in the air
and dart in for some slurpy kisses. After 50 or 60 repetitions of
this, she will flop back in your lap for a cuddly snooze. She's most
likely a long-haired dachshund/terrier mix, and weighs about 12
pounds. Juniper's great with other dogs and likes cats. She would like
to play with the cats at her foster home, but so far none of the cats
match her energy level. Still very much a puppy in her antics, she
likes to collect a "stash" of your things on the couch, on her bed,
etc. so while she likes young kids, make sure yours know how to put
away their Barbie dolls! She is spayed, up-to-date on her
vaccinations, and heartworm negative! For more information on Juniper,
email lisa@bluedogrescue.com.
Juniper and friends are available for adoption in the local Central
Texas area.

Thanks to Dana with Woofers Canine Companion Training for her
donation.
Thanks to Eric & Kelly for helping Juniper

The next time you see a stray dog rummaging through the garbage or
sitting on the side of the road, take the time to make the phone call
that may save that animal's life. We hear from well-meaning people all
the time who didn't call animal control to pick up a stray because
they were worried about the possibility of euthanasia. However, the
hazards of living on the streets, dodging cars, starving or being
injured are far greater. Not to mention, a family may be desperately
searching for their companion, and the city shelter offers the best
chance at a reunion. In Austin, call 311, and be prepared to offer
details about the dog's location and a general description. |
